The highly intentional use of color to manifest the simmering tension between the Jets and the Sharks. Crafting distinct, cohesive palettes for each rival faction, grounding the ensemble in striking hues that visually defined their loyalties. Against this vibrant backdrop of gang colors, Maria and Tony were deliberately styled in contrasting shades to visually isolate them from the surrounding conflict. Ultimately, the wardrobe serves as a silent storyteller, using color theory to amplify the emotional weight and timeless heartbreak of this iconic musical.

  • The Sharks' Palette: Anchored in a foundation of purple paired with red accents, establishing a passionate, unified visual.

  • The Jets' Palette: Styled in cool tones of blue highlighted by yellow accents, creating a distinct aesthetic.

  • Post-Rumble Duplicates: Two identical sets of costumes were constructed-one version for the dance, and a distressed duplicate to reflect the aftermath of the brawl.

  • Dance at the Gym Silhouettes: Shark girls wore dramatic full circle skirts for maximum movement, while Jet girls wore more tailored three-quarter circle skirts.

  • Dream Sequence Dichotomy: airy, ethereal pastels for the dream ballet against the grounded, muted jewel tones of reality.
